How much does Wix really cost per year?
In the US, a Wix website costs $204 to $468 a year on the Light, Core or Business plan, paid a year at a time, before tax. From year two, add about $20 a year for your domain, and about $84 a year for each business email address if you want one.
That puts a typical small business at roughly $1,100 to $2,400 over five years for the website alone. Here’s the full breakdown, the costs that aren’t on the pricing page, and what the same five years costs when you own your site.
Wix plans, priced by the year
Wix advertises a monthly price, but you pay the whole year at checkout. These are the US prices Wix lists as of November 2026, before tax.

“Each year after” adds about $20 to renew a .com domain bought through Wix, rounded. Business Elite, at $159 a month ($1,908 a year), is built for large stores and teams, so we left it out. Totals don’t include tax, email or apps.
The costs that aren’t on the pricing page
None of these are hidden on purpose, but most people only notice them on the first renewal.
Paying monthly costs more
The advertised prices are for a full year paid up front. Pay month to month and the price goes up. Wix shows the monthly rate at checkout.
The free domain is free for one year
The voucher covers a new domain bought through Wix with your first yearly plan. After that, Wix lists .com renewals at about $20 a year.
Business email is extra
Wix sells Google Workspace mailboxes. Google’s standard Business Starter price is $7 per user per month, so two mailboxes add $168 a year.
Taking payments needs Core
Light can’t take online payments or bookings. If you need either, the cheapest plan is Core at $348 a year, and card processing fees apply on every sale.
Some apps charge their own fee
Extras from the Wix App Market can carry their own monthly price on top of your plan.
Sales tax is added
Wix’s prices are before tax. Tax is added at checkout based on your billing address.

A template on cheap hosting is the lowest-cost way to have a professional site you own. At the top of its range, with a $99 template and $15-a-month hosting, it costs about the same as Wix Light, but you keep the files and can move them whenever you like.

Five-year cost isn’t the deciding factor
If convenience matters more than the total, Wix is a solid choice.

What happens if I stop paying Wix?
Your site drops back to Wix’s free plan, with Wix ads and a Wix web address, and your own domain stops showing it. The design can’t be exported, so leaving later means rebuilding.
Is there a cheaper way to have a professional website?
Yes. A website template you buy once, from $29, on your own hosting usually costs a few dollars a month. Over five years that is often a few hundred dollars instead of over a thousand.
