Studio 105 Recording: from 92 to 98 on Google PageSpeed

Studio 105 Recording is our own recording studio in Jacksonville, not a client. We built its website and run it every day. In October 2026 we gave it a full speed and accessibility tune-up. Here is exactly what we changed, with the real before and after scores.

After-test details: Google PageSpeed Insights, mobile (emulated Moto G Power, slow 4G), home page, October 29, 2026. Every other page we tested on the site scored 97 to 100 for Performance and 100 for the rest. Scores move by a point or two between runs, so yours may differ slightly when you test it.

What we changed

No page builder and no plugins, so every fix was a direct change to the code. In plain English:

  1. Nothing to wait for before the page appears

Before, every page had to download two separate style files, about 73 KB, before it could show anything. Now each page carries only the styles it actually uses, built into the page itself.

    2 blocking style files → 0
  2. Lighter fonts

We trimmed the site's two typefaces down to just the letters and symbols the site uses, and told the browser which ones to fetch first.

    Fonts 214 KB → 143 KB, a third smaller
  3. Headlines that don't jump

While a custom font loads, the browser shows a stand-in font. If the two are different sizes, headlines re-wrap and push buttons down the page. We sized a matching stand-in for every weight and italic, so nothing moves.

    Layout shift: 0
  4. Animations wait their turn

The shimmer on the buttons now starts after six seconds, once the page has settled. Fade-in effects only run on content below the first screen, so the top of the page is there immediately.

  5. Load things when they're needed

The home page's music player is now built just before you scroll down to it, instead of at page load. Photos further down the page load as you reach them, so they don't compete with the text at the top.

  6. Sharper, smaller gallery photos

The photo gallery's small previews were blurry on phones. We rebuilt every one from the full-size photo in a modern image format, and show two per row on phones.

  7. Usable by everyone

Links inside paragraphs are now underlined, so they don't rely on color alone, and the music player's progress slider now reports its position to screen readers.

    Accessibility 96 → 100

What this means for your site

Every website we make is built and checked the same way: custom code, tested on Google PageSpeed before it goes live. Our templates score 98 to 100 on mobile, and each one shows its score so you can test it yourself.
